Once sculpted the clay turns hard again when it cools, this is helpful with horns because the clay needs to be firm around the structure otherwise it can distort.
In this picture I had created the full form of the horn with the clay and used a rake tool to level out the sculpt, this also smoothed the surface.
NSP shown in the picture above is the clay that I sculpted with to make the horns, I had only previously used le beau touche which is much softer. I actually found the NSP clay suitable for sculpting the horns because initially it is very hard so it has to be melted slightly/ warmed up which I did in the microwave.
Once I was happy with the shape of my horns I covered the chicken wire in tin foil, this allows you to scupt onto the structure easily.
I started making the horns by moulding chicken wire into a metal structure to hold the clay, I made sure to do this with gardening gloves as the chicken wire was sharp and would cut my hands a lot while making the frame.
Here are the horns before the tin foil was applied, for the time being I attached them to the board with a small amount of clay but later I will need to drill them to the board.
