Evaluation

In this unit evaluation I am going to discuss my major project and talk about any issues I have encountered along the way. The journey through major project that has been a roller-coaster of emotions however I feel more ready than ever to move on and graduate from university. It has shown me how much I have progressed but it has also shown me that I need to have more faith in my abilities.

I was still exploring with technical processes throughout major project and part of me does regret not exploring wig making more in Specialist Practice since I would have benefited from making a wig then and my production time would have been much quicker during this project. I also may have been able to explore more in a creative sense and with more advanced techniques. Moving forward it has however given me new things to aim for and look ahead to in my career, for example I would like to focus my spare time in progressing more with wig making techniques and looking to create a five part wig, a full fine lace wig etc. which will expand my skill base. I intend to assist hair stylists in the industry but I am also going to continue with make-up application and carry on learning and gaining more experience.

Social media for me is beginning to pick up and it is such a great way of connecting with other make-up and hair artists and it is also a good way to showcase work. I have been posting when I can on Instagram throughout the project however I plan to really focus on building a network from it when I finish as I have already begun to. It shows me that major project has built my confidence a considerable amount in order to feel excited about future opportunities and ready to step out into the industry opposed to holding myself back like I have done several times before.

I had to get really stuck into the shoot, the organisation, finding a location, building a reliable team and I am really proud of the outcome. The team was in total seven, including myself. I had photographer, assistant photographer, two prop and set assistants, a florist, the model and myself. It was very much out of my comfort zone, I had been doubting my abilities after the professional identity interviews and feedback for a few weeks so in some ways I felt the need to prove I was not overwhelmed by that amount of pressure. In terms of the make-up and hair applications I remained the calmest I have been in all of the projects since level 4 which I think also is a result of maturity as I was only eighteen when I started university. Within the past year I have worked independently outside of university with little reliance on others which has improved my communication skills, teamwork skills and general experience especially throughout major project as I am no longer afraid to be involved in unfamiliar situations.

I did come across some technical difficulties which have set me back slightly including website errors where completed pages on my blog have disappeared which has meant wasting valuable time re doing what had already been done, consequently I have struggled balancing everything the past few weeks by trying to catch up. I had technical issues with my time lapse and videoing processes on the day which at the time I could not rectify since the shoot day was so fast paced. I would have liked to have made a third wig but this is something I can now focus on doing after finishing since I have learnt the process for myself during this project.

As far as the final outcome of images goes, I am happy that they are portfolio worthy and although the photographer is a perfectionist when it comes to editing and there have been delays with some of the images I hope to have a full range of strong imagery that I can showcase in a portfolio once I have left university and am applying for jobs within the industry. It is important to stay current and continue working on projects like this even after I finish and I am now confident I have the contacts to do so.
