Roses

Above I have tested various ways to create roses with hair, I tried hairspraying the hair until rigid (this did not work as well because the swirl created was not great. I then plaited the section of hair and wrapped it (this was nice but not as effective as the other ways as you can see above. The third way was by using hairspray to layer up a sheet of loose hair and wrapping iy round my fingers, realising and pinning into place- shown in the third image. I tried many different colours of the hair and originally was going to have the wig and roses pink after redesigning however making these changed my mind. The red looked much stronger and made me sway the choice of colour before final designing.

The pictures above show the layering of the hair in the first image and in the others the way I tested the hair when it was rigid. As you can see the second way was difficult to bend because it was so straight.

So in the end I decided to make non painted red roses to go in a halo around the head, I made ten roses all together of roughly the same size. They worked niceley and lasted all the way until my shoot as they turned quite hard once hairspray had been applied again which was good because it meant I could just easily attach them on the day.

After my tutorial I decided to have a go at painting the roses to see if it added any depth and realness. So I used three acrylic paints to try and achieve this. I did not mind the look of the roses from afar but because there were loose strands from the layering up of the hair which is inevitable the painting did look scruffy and I thought the roses looked much cleaner and real looking without the paint.

This was before the making of the roses when I ordered lots of different types of hair to get a feel for the colour and the texture etc. The first pictures shows the hair I ended up using for the wig and this is because I loved the texture and the colour was really fantasy and I thought it would work well with the rest of the colours and the golds etc.

This was a very first test I did for the champagne look as I thought the polystyrene balls would look like bubbles in the hair but it did more resemble an octopus. It was good ti test since I had designed exactly this however it was not right and ultimately implied the choice I made to make a wig.

Here are some images of the silver spray I tested on the hair. I had decided to not make a wig for this one because it was not neccessary when she already had dark hair thatI could spray so I tested the consistency and look of the spray above.
