In 1921, a Harrods bear was bought for one-year-old Christopher Robin. He named it Winnie-the-Pooh, and the stories by his father, A.A. Milne, made it the most famous bear in the world.

In 1930, Harrods was one of the first shops with a men’s deprtment. Revamped between 2009 and 2010, there is now Tailoring and International Designerwear in addition to Casualwear and Contemporary clothing.

Harrods’ Disney Princesses Campaign

Disney is having a fashion moment. On the heels (tee hee) of Cinderella-inspired shoes by both Christian Louboutin and DSW as well as Barneys’ Disney-inspired holiday campaign, Harrod’s has debuted its own take on Disney: princesses. For the 2012 holiday season, Harrods invited 10 top designers to create unique dresses inspired by your favorite Disney leading ladies. The famed U.K. department store will unveil the fantastical fashions in the windows of its Knightsbridge store on November 1, writes the Telegraph, which leaves all you jetsetting Americans plenty of time to glimpse the dresses through the holiday season.

From the escalator you can splinter off and explore 4.5 acres of retail space, over seven floors and 330 departments, each offering up its own kind of lavish loopiness. In the Millionaire Gallery — presumably called because it sells stuff for the person who has everything — Marilyn Monroe's autograph is on sale for £16,000, Gandhi's for £25,000. Further exploration around Harrods's upper decks reveals a silver plated Millennium Falcon flash drive, BB King's guitar, and a box of six Christmas crackers for £499.

You can also come to Harrods just to feel a bit special. In a department store like this, staff can run the risk of seeming specious but here they've got it just right (apart maybe from the guy dusting wine bottles — that's a bit much). People greet you randomly, as if they've been expecting you, but then leave you to get on browsing all those products you're never going to buy. The average staff member is also so crushingly beautiful. It is best to take your time for a visit to the large store, which covers an area of about 80,000 sq m spread out over seven floors. Floor plans are available near the entrances. One of the most beautiful departments of the store is the magnificent Food Hall on the lower floor, decorated with tiles created by artist Williams James Neatby. Other impressive departments include the Egyptian Halls and the Crystal Rooms. Also of note is the central escalator, decorated with Egyptian motives. And don't forget to visit the toy department - the city's best - where you'll find enormous stuffed animals.

The pictures above show harrods most recent valentines displays. They are very fantasy and extravagent and since my designing has moved towards more of a valentines theme it would be good to aim it as a Harrods mock advertisement window campaign for seasonal purposes. Below I have drawn some sketches of rough ideas on how I think the displays should look. The images will be at the back on the wall and there will be lots of props inside the window based around the look.
