Make-Up Exploration
Georgie Kennett
Anorexia Makeup Experimentation
Using shades 10 across 2 down, 10 across 6 down and 11 across 4 down eyeshadows from the Crown Brush eyeshadow palette of 88 colours. Browns and mainly grey are used to create the colouring of the shadow.
Shadow is applied underneath the cheek bones and down into the mouth/ chin to create depth and give the illusion of sunken skin extremely common in anorexic faces where the skin sinks down into the bone structure as there is no fat in the skin.
Above is the face before any make up is applied, the reason for this make-up is to experiment with anorexia because it is such a common problem in society and links into this project since women are under so much pressure to be skinny and attractive often causing these extremes.
079 red Kryolan greasepaint is applied onto the eye area to create tired looking eyes, both on the lid and under the bottom lash line. A small amount is also added onto the bag area of the eyes.
Using the lightest shade in the Makeup International foundation palette highlight was applied to add depth to the shadow and make the sunken areas stronger.
Grey is used more than the brown because grey gives the appearance of illness, anorexia is an illness that is draining on the body. The skin does not look healthy so browns are not used as much just to support the grey colouring.
The difference between the first picture and the last pictures are quite significant. The experimentation was successful the only thing to be careful of was not applying shadow and colour that looks like bruising. I am however satisfied with the images.
The shadow has been applied onto the neck. cheekbones, chin, mouth area, temples, on the eyelids, under the eyes and down the nose. The shadow and highlight on the neck add to the make-up look and give the appearance of a much skinnier frame.
