Barbie Make-Up
Using a Mac gel black eyeliner I carefully re drew the almond eye shape, the outline of the iris and the pupil. Pink eyeshadow from the crown brush eyeshadow palette in the shade 7 across and 6 down was next applied on the outside of the new eye shape to create a new eyelid. Blue eyesadow also from the palette was applied in the iris area. I used white Kryolan greaspaint to achieve the bright eye white and reflection on the pupil.
D32 was applied over the wax and powdered to cancel any dark colouring from the brows. As the brows are of dark colouring it was necessary to apply a decent amount of the camoflage colour D32 to hide them.
Mac Studio Fix foundation in NW20 was applied over the whole face with a buffing brush and over the eyebrows to conceal the red colouring from the D32. The foundation was then set with Kryolan Translucent powder in order to prevent the colour later applied from moving on the skin.
Above is the face before any makeup is applied, to create this barbie makeup inspired by the idea that barbie is perfection that women strive to be like I had to reposition the brows as eyes were going to be drawn over them. With a small ball of Ben Nye nose and scar wax i began to disguise the brows starting from the outer corners to the middle. I did not need to apply any spirit gum or prosaid because the hairs were quite thin.
The lips have been redrawn with a Kryolan pink lip liner. Makeup International pink lipstick in shade 3 was applied all over the lips with a small amount of LC201 lip colour from the kryolan lip palette to add highlight.
A large amount of pink blusher from the kryolan three colour blush set was applied to the apples of the cheeks and cheekbones. A Rimmel London shimmer brick was used to add highlight onto the areas on the face light naturally hits. .
The above picture shows the eyes close up with the brows re drawn with brown Kryolan greasepaint 101.
The barbie make-up was successful I feel I was able to create the illusion of a plastic stereotypical face by eliminating the natural eyes all together. The picture abive shows the makeuo when the eyes are open which instantly alters the perception immediately.
The make-up is supposed to look heavy and vibrant as barbies faces are painted this way. The over glossing on the lips and shimmer on the face contributes strongly to the idea that this makeup is plastic and artificial. There is nothing natural about the makeup therefore nothing natural about barbie relating to unachievable goals women strive for.
