Drag Queen Make-Up

Above is the Drag Queen make-up demonstrated in the lesson. The make-up for drag is extremely thick and caked on. A successul heavy contour can be seen in the pictures above by using a very dark shadow colour, a light highlighter and a midtone colour that blends the whole make-up together.

The make-up focuses on changing the shape of the face redrawing the eyebrows and eye sockets to exaggerate the size of the eye. Men tend to have quite sunken eyes and low eyebrows so the focus on the eyes is important.

Dark black gel eyeliner is applied with a small brush under the bottom lash line up to create a large wing. The eyeliner is then used to redraw the socket line. The black is dark and heavy however this is the desired look. The picture above shows the liner before I rouded the shape. I powdered the face with kryolan translucent powder before applying makeup to the eyes so that the shadow fell onto the un set foundation.

I applied a base colour over the whole face in the shade CU003 and CU/1 from the Makeup International foundation palette. I then appled dark contour lines down the nose along the jawline and chin, under the cheekbones and around the temple and forehead with colour CU/10 also from the same foundation palette. Highlight is applied under the eyes, down the nose, on the cupids bow, on the brow bone and along the area above the jaw line. I then proceeded to go back in with the base colour I started with to blend the colours together.

Blocking out the eyebrows with prosaid was the first step by painting it on and smoothing the brows with the fingers. Dermashield or vaseline should be applied before the prosaid to prevent the hairs from sticking to the glue. D32 is then applied over the dried prosaid to coneal any eyebrow colour, not much was needed to cover my models brows as her hair is light.

Eyelashes would be applied and a wig would add to the overall impact of the make-up. he contour on the cheekbones is strong and the midtone technique really worked in blending the foundations together.

Using the kryolan lip liner in the shade blush I redrew the lips and cupid bow larger. The colour applied onto the lips was a nude shade in the kryolan lip palette. This accentuates the womanly features of large defined lips.

Gold glitter NYX eyeshadow was applied onto the centre of the eyelid. A shimmer shadow was next applied to the cheekbones and onto the brow bone to enhance the contouring and make the features stand out.
