Image Breakdown

Frame & Colour

The reason the feathers are positined this way is to create the look of wings on top of the head. The colours I used were all blues to relect the colouring of the astrapia bird and i used ombre to blend them together as the irridescence and change of colour in the astrapia bird is seamless.

Context

I have produced these images with the intention to advertise for an Illamasqua collection. The names of illamasqua collections are generally one word that sums up the collection I decided to call mine 'Astrapia' These images could be used on the website to promote the new collection or equally two could be used as a set for a magazine spread advertising the brand and collection.

Face Makeup

The face make-up is warmer so the image does not appear cold as this will be to advertise a S/S range by illamasqua. The astrapia bird is a tropical influence so this is where the justification comes from.

Model Hair & Extensions

I used hair extensions to add to my models hair to add the neccessary length and thickness to completely cover the frame. I parted the hair like this to flatter her face shape. I sprayed the silver hair spray to add some metallic colour that is visible in the astrapia bird.

Eyes & Colour

The reason I used the colours I did was to reflect the colouration of the Astrapia bird. This image is to advertise for an Astrapia Collection by Illamasqua so the advertisement could include a new range of shimmer eyeshadows and hairspray due to release in S/S 2016. Which is also where the trend influence has come from for the blues and turquoises.

Bird Theme

The collection advertised is going to be Illamasqua's new Astrapia collection influenced by the bird of paradise Ribbon Tailed Astrapia bird. However, the nature and animal link also connects and is relevant to the fact that illamasqua do not test on animals and are cruelty free. This is another way of advertising and selling the products.

Costume

The costume I have used is to reflect the birds feathers and body but with a fashion editorial twist making the image current and on trend.  The jewellery modernises the look and makes the costume not so much a costume but a wearable outfit.
