Imagining the Demonic

This lecture although was about the demonic it was still relevant to building on research skills. I tried to take notes not necessarily for the demonic but notes that were broader than demons;

Research project example-

Research into various areas that inform possible make up designs rather than finished makeup applications.

What informs the notion of …..

How do we apply this ideology in design and makeup transformation ….

Theoretical issues for research include:

  • Religion

  • Ethnology (culture and race beliefs)

  • Mythology (myths legends etc.)

  • Psychology (human mind

  • Anthropological

 

Visual references- how subject has been portrayed in history etc.

Physiognomy – reading faces based on the features you are seeing.

Physical features and character traits- judgement of faces etc.

Research the following to depict makeup designs:

  1. Sculptures, paintings, poetry and literature.

  2. Look at live performance after history of context- see how other people have represented the focus.

  3. Television, changes in fashions and representation over time.

  4. Film, original sources from film.
